Technology offers us so many advantages in living full and rewarding lives, but technology does have a dark side and can result in extreme problems for people that might not fully understand technology and how it can be used against them.

About one year ago I received an email that appeared to be legit. It was recruiting people to have their automobile used as a rolling billboard by installing a vinyl wrap promoting their product. I think my solicitation was to have my truck wrapped in Mountain Dew colors and for doing so and leaving it on my vehicle for four months they were willing to pay me $500 per month.

The concept seemed appealing so I replied that I would do it. The very next day I received a Fed EX package with a $2500 check inside. The instructions told me that I was to deposit the check in my account and keep $500 of it and get the balance in cash. I would be contacted by the vinyl wrap installer directly and for his service I would pay him the $2,000. Each month I would be given another $500 by check until the full four months were completed.

This was of course a total scam. There was no program though Mountain Dew and there would never be a dime paid to me. Had I done what was asked I would have lost out on $2,500 because the day after I would have deposited the check I would have found out from my bank that there was no…
