Khotkar is a close aide of CM Uddhav Thackeray, currently facing revolt from his other party members that could bring down the incumbent Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in the state.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and other MVA leaders are amongst the 70 politicians being investigated by the central agency for alleged irregularities in Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB). Based on the complaint, the agency had pegged the scam to be worth Rs 25,000 crore.
According to the agency, the investigations conducted under PMLA have revealed that the Jalna sugar factory of Jalna SSK Limited was established on 235 acres of land including 100 acres received without any monetary consideration from government of Maharashtra. The factory failed to repay the loan from MSCB and it was declared as NPA in 2002. The firm that managed to win the bid was provided funds by a company linked to the Sena leader and subsequently sold to the firm linked to the family members of Khotkar.
