Don’t moan that the state pension is rising. Be thankful | Money

Retired people are wealthy, so don’t deserve a big rise in the state pension. That’s the argument that has been trotted out again this week after the chancellor pledged to restore the triple-lock on pensions, giving anyone claiming the state payout an increase of probably more than 10 per cent this year. The debate, of course, is particularly pertinent as inflation hits 9.1 per cent and rail drivers stage strikes over their pay increases, with other unions threatening to do the same.

Plus, this argument is more prevalent when the Conversative party is in power because, you will hear some say, pensioners are being treated favourably because so many vote Tory.
