Two major revelations about former President Donald Trump have dominated the public hearings held thus far by the congressional committee investigating the January 6 assault on the US Capitol. And like many things having to do with the former president, the details are profoundly shocking, but not really surprising.
The first is that multiple members of Trump’s inner circle knew he lost the election and told him so repeatedly. In spite of that, Trump kept lying to the American public, promoting conspiracy theories claiming he won – theories his own attorney general, in speaking to the committee, called “bullshit.”
The second staggering set of facts uncovered by the committee’s investigators show just how brazenly Trump conned his followers, fleecing them to fill his campaign coffers and boost his own and his family’s prospects.
