Australian university student Sarah Towers was scammed out of her life savings

An Australian university student has tearfully recounted the stressful experience of losing her life savings when an overseas hacker found a way into her bank account.

Sarah Towers discovered more than $3000 had been siphoned out of her Commonwealth Bank account last month when transactions from London appeared in her phone notifications.

Towers, 19, told her TikTok followers in an emotional clip she was a student on “minimum wage” and the cash that was stolen included her savings, money for bills and $2000 on her credit card.

“Recently I was scammed out of all of my money in my bank account, which was more than $3000,” Towers explained.

“Somehow, the person who got into my bank also had access to my phone, to which they managed to turn off my NetBank notifications, which allowed them to get a net code without me ever even knowing.”

The scammer somehow used their own phone to login to Towers’ bank accounts, which gave them uninhibited access to her savings.

Towers watched on in horror as multiple transactions, often over $900 at a time, were authorised through her bank account in the UK.
