Jamshedpur scam: No action in Rs 100 cr scam even after 2 months

Jamshedpur, April 22: Police are yet to take action against the culprits of the Rs 100 crore scam that reportedly came to light in West Singhbhum. A Jagannathpur resident, Tupra Laguri, had written a letter to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in this regard and informed the agency that two persons, Dhanuj Kerai and his elder brother Manoj Kerai, natives of Noamundi block, had robbed people of their hard earned income by promising them lucrative returns on their investment. The two brothers had amassed Rs 100 crore by targeting gullible investors across Kolhan. They had formed several teams that visited various rural and urban places in cars and lured people to invest money and become car owners in a small span just like them. They also signed fake agreement papers and promised to help prospective investors get loan from banks. They also gave blank cheques and tour packages to villagers to win their trust, sources said.

According to sources, a retired railway employee, Turi Hembram, of Sialjoda, Haatgamharia, lost Rs 70 lakh to the two conmen. Taking note of the complaint, the ED had reportedly forwarded it to the IG of Police (HR) of Jharkhand on 16th March last. The IG directed the SSP of East Singhbhum to take action in this case on 1st April. The SSP entrusted DSP Cyber to probe the matter. The DSP asked the Cyber police station to investigate the matter.
