Senior duped in $1.7M virus scam; attack on cops at ferry terminal: Staten Island’s top crimes of the week

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Here is a look at the most significant headlines in criminal justice on our borough this week:

S.I. MAN LOSES $1.7M IN VIRUS SCAM

A Mariners Harbor man faced with a computer virus wired money to an unknown individual on five occasions totaling $1.7 million in the latest online scam to impact Staten Island.

The 63-year-old victim received a virus on his computer late last year before calling a number claiming to be from Microsoft, said police. The victim was then transferred to a person who said he worked for Chase bank to arrange payments, the NYPD said.

GRAPHIC TESTIMONY IN FATAL HIT-RUN TRIAL

The collision between a speeding Lexus SUV and a Ford at an intersection in Annadale two years ago propelled the Ford into a 360-degree spin, a police officer testified on Thursday.

Simultaneously, the cop saw something shocking.

“A woman flew out of the rear driver’s side window” of the Ford, Officer Marissa Pascone testified at Tashawn Beckford’s murder trial in state Supreme Court, St. George. Christine Dahlstrom, 32, of Tottenville, was killed in the crash.
