Phishing email asking residents to set up online account a fake

Summit County residents should be on the lookout for a phishing scam.

The phishing email, according to the Summit County Executive’s Office, includes a fake county email address as well as the county seal. 

“The email address, info@co.summitoh.net, is not a legitimate county email address,” said Ilene Shapiro, Summit County executive. “If a resident receives an email from this sender they should assume it is a scam.”

Shapiro said residents who receive a suspicious-looking email claiming to be from the county should call 330-643-2500 to verify its authenticity.
