T-Mobile Text Message Scams Are on the Rise

Last week we reported on “text from myself scams” targeting Verizon customers. Now scammers have taken aim at T-Mobile customers and started to spread similar scam text messages to them. Did you receive any?

How T-Mobile Text Message Scams Work

Promising you a free gift, scammers try to lure you into clicking on the embedded link in the message. If you do so, you will then be taken to a phishing website designed to steal your personal information — everything you submit there will end up in the scammers’ hands, and they can use it to commit identity theft.

We’ve written about other phishing text messages that impersonate T-Mobile before. For example, in another T-Mobile phishing scheme, scammers advertised a free iPad to try to trick you into clicking on the phishing link:

Again, the scammers’ goal is to lead you to a fake website that collects all your data.

With it, scammers can commit any number of cybercrimes in your name. For example, they could use the credit card information you enter to hack into your bank account and withdraw your money, or even use your personal information to commit identity theft. Don’t let them!
