A prolific online rapper known as the “Crocodile of Wall Street” faced ridicule on social media after she and her husband were arrested on charges of laundering money obtained from a cryptocurrency hack.
Famous short-seller Jim Chanos called Heather Morgan the “Bernice Madoff (so far) of crypto crime” on his Twitter account, referring to Bernie Madoff, who was convicted of building the largest Ponzi scheme in history.
Chanos added “#GoldenAgeOfFraud” to a link to one of Morgan’s TikTok videos.
Morgan, 31, and her husband Ilya Lichtenstein, 34, were arrested in New York this week, the Department of Justice said. They are accused of conspiracy to commit money laundering, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and conspiracy to defraud the US.
They haven’t been charged with theft from the 2016 Bitfinex hack, even though almost 120,000 bitcoin from the breach ended up in accounts controlled by Lichtenstein.
Morgan goes by the name Razzlekhan on YouTube and TikTok. In one video she claims to be “many things – a rapper, an economist, a journalist, a writer, a CEO and a dirty, dirty, dirty little **.”
According to their LinkedIn profiles, Lichtenstein is an angel investor and Morgan is a “serial entrepreneur” as well as a “surrealist artist/rapper”.
